BMW offers a better option in the form of BMW X7 2018. The X7 size will offer extra luxury and a third row standard seat better suited to medium-sized adults.
Why does it matter: while competitors from Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz have accumulated sales in the full-size luxury SUV category, BMW has sat on the sidelines. Not anymore. A large high-end BMW crossover equipped with 7 series of luxury and more trolley around the whole family is sure to print virtually money for the German brand.
Platform: A variant of the cluster architecture (CLAR) introduced for the new BMW 7 series, a comfort-oriented chassis that advocates us to take on the X7 will be less a driver’s skull than a luxury cruiser. BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive will likely be standard, but BMW does not fit the X7 with ready-to-use equipment such as differential lock or a low-range transfer case. Production of the X7 will take place in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Powertrain: The X7’s range of engines should get closer to the 7-Series sedan, with a 3.0-liter in-line six-petrol engine making about 320 horsepower as an entry-level engine in the X7 40i and a 4.4-turbocharged 4.4- Liter V-8 with about 445 horsepower to complete the range in the X7 50i. Hybrid diesel and gasoline-electric models are also expected, while a theoretically V-12 model would be easy to produce for markets like Russia (okay, the US too). If an X7 granted by Alpina becomes a thing, however, we do not expect it to reach our shores.
Competition: Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX570, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS-class.
Estimated arrival and prices: Watch the X7 to be revealed in one of the auto shows in the first half of 2017 (maybe in Geneva in March), with production expected by the end of the year. Given the target market, it makes sense that prices start at around $ 70,000, with high-end models exceeding $ 125,000.
